Centuries of unchecked nature have transformed the region:
- The East Wilds
- Dense coniferous forests dominate the region
- Huge root systems breaking through the roads and structures
- Long winters, short but fertile summers
- Wildlife is abundant: elk, wolves, boar - all dangerous if you come too close
- The Split River
- Wide, cold, and fast-moving
- Lifeline of the settlement: water, fish, and transport
- Freezes partially in winter, creating temporary crossings
- Once controlled by massive, existed thousands years ago floodgates
- Seasonal surges flood lower districts
- Serves as a primary trade route between other settlements
- The Reclaimed Ground
- Soil enriched by centuries of decay
- Crops grow well, but dense forestes make farming a bit difficult
- Old stone and metal often surface during plowing
2. Society & Culture
📜 Open Founder's notes
...they always wanted equality and justice, but they constantly upset the scales of good and evil with their sins.
Terrible stories of the past, passed down by fathers and mothers through the ages to their children so they wouldn't make the same terrible mistakes their parents once made.
Perhaps nature deliberately doomed us to this fate - by not endowing us with the capacity for equality in society.
We can accept this as a true test of fate, but we will not break in despair and will ensure that our future descendants are proud of us.
- Founders’ Creed
Ostrangor operates under a simple principle:
“What we rebuild must never fall the same way.”
- Technology is respected but feared
- Innovation is allowed only under strict oversight
- Knowledge of the past is fragmented and heavily debated
- Trading
- Resource-based economy (metal, wood, fish)
- Trade caravans travel via river
- Currency exists, but barter dominates
- The Flower District
- Center of daily life
- Communal fires, cooking areas, workshops
- Active building still in process

- The Outer Fields
- Farmland stretching beyond the core settlement
- Guarded but vulnerable to wildlife
- Includes watch towers and simple fencing
3. Ideology & Foundations
📜 Open Founder's notes
...today we will build a society where caring and honesty come first. A society where people are not judged by looks, but by actions.
We value and respect other cultures but we will not tolerate attempts to insult or desecrate the order of our lands.
You cannot destroy what you did not create.
- Community First
There is no ruling class, no factions - only necessity:
- Decisions made by council of experienced settlers
- Survival skills valued more than status
- Everyone contributes: farming, guarding, building, repairing
- Violence within Ostrangor is forbidden
- Travelers are allowed entry, but watched
- Theft and sabotage are punished by exile
- Memory Without Records
- No written history survived intact
- Stories are passed by word of mouth
- Elders remember fragments - names, places, landscapes
- Notable Council Figures
The daily operations and guidance of Ostrangor are overseen by experienced members of the community:

4. Trade & Economy
- Barter-based system: food, tools, materials
- Key resources:
- Dried meat and fish
- Timber and charcoal
- Salvaged metal and usable stone
- Occasional traders arrive by river or forest paths
- Nothing is wasted: broken items are repaired or repurposed
5. Role of Ostrangor
- Starting hub for new settlements in the region
- Trade center connecting multiple towns
- Starting point for exploration into forests and ruins
Ostrangor is quiet but not empty. Safe, but not comfortable. Alive, but built on something long gone.
We doesn’t try to explain the past.
We focus on building the present.

6. Traditions & Daily Life
The Night of Embers
Since no written history survived, the people of Ostrangor rely on memory. On the last night of each month the entire settlement gathers in the Flower District.
- People ignite the handmade flying lights
- Elders recite the Founders' Creed
- Hunters share their rumors
- Scrappers present artifacts pulled from the ruins for the Council to inspect
The Maker's Rite
In Ostrangor, coming of age is not about conquering nature but about contributing to the community. Before being recognized as a full adult with voting rights in the Council a young settler must complete the "Maker's Rite".
They must salvage a useless relic of the Old World and forge it into something that benefits the whole town: be it a new fishing net or a reinforced beam for a communal roof.
This ensures that the core rule of the settlement is passed down: nothing is wasted and everyone builds the future together.
The final creation is presented to the Council during the monthly Night of Embers.
The elders do not judge the object by its beauty but by its durability, necessity and the effort it required. A simple, sturdy iron hatchet is valued far more than a decorative trinket.
